The 13 Clowns Kodi addon is a multi-source addon built from the Exodus Redux code base. 13 Clowns uses the new community scraper project, Civitas Scrapers.

13 Clowns Repository & Addon Returns

So, why 13 Clowns vs Exodus Redux?

Kodi addons are made up of three separate parts:

1. The Scraper
2. The Resolver
3. The Search Engine

The 13 Clowns or Exodus Redux addons (or any other addon) is the search engine. It’s job is to search and query movie and TV titles. In the case of Exodus and other multi-source addons, it uses Trakt, TMDB, and TVDM databases to present movies and titles in playlists such as “most popular” or “trending movies”.

When you search or query a title, the Kodi addon searches through scrapers, which are websites on the internet that contain links to media files. The scraper used by 13 Clowns is Civitas Scrapers, which has quickly become the most popular set of scrapers for Kodi.

Exodus Redux is still using the old LambdaScrapers project, which has been abandoned and is not receiving updates any longer.

After showing you a list of media files, the one you pick to play is passed off to a resolver. The resolver module is ResolveURL, which is a collection of instructions on how to navigate through file hosts to get out the raw video file.

13 Clowns Latest Version

April 21st: The 13 Clowns Kodi addon has been updated to v5.0.6. Recent changes to the addon include:

The addon uses the Incursion code base (The Incursion fork comes from the original Exodus addon) with LambdaScrapers integrated into the addon. There are some “tweaks” made but those specifics were not posted.

How to Install 13 Clowns Kodi Add-on

Standard Method

ON Kodi 17 Krypton & 18 Leia Only: From the main menu, navigate to Settings > System Settings > Add-ons > Turn On Unknown Sources > Click Yes.

1. From the Kodi main menu, navigate to SYSTEM > File Manager > Add Source > None
2. Type the following EXACTLY https://the13clowns.github.io and select Done
3. Highlight the box underneath and enter a name for this media Source like .13. and then click OK
4. Go back to your home screen.
   • ON Kodi 17 Krypton or later: Select Add-ons > Add-on Browser 
   • ON Kodi 16 or earlier: Select SYSTEM > Add-Ons
5. Select Install from Zip File > .13 > repository.13clowns-x.x.x.zip and wait for the Add-on enabled notification
6. Select Install from Repository > 13 Clowns Repo > Video Add-ons > 13 Clowns Video > Install
7. Wait for Add-on enabled notification

13 Clowns Kodi No Streams Available Fix

If you are seeing a fast “No Stream Available” when clicking on any title. follow these instructions:

1. Navigate to Tools > Settings: Providers.
2. Under the Providers tab, make sure the Scraper Provider is set to Civitas Scrapers.
3. Click on Open Civitas Scrapers Settings
4. Make sure the Choose Module Scraper option is set to Civitasscrapers.
5. Click okay
6. Follow steps 1-5 above one more time to make sure that your settings have been locked in.

You should see working streams with the 13 Clowns Kodi addon!

How to Authorize Trakt in 13 Clowns

If you are a Trakt user and store your movies and TV data in that service, you can sync your account by launching Exodus Redux and going to Tools > Authorize Trakt. Follow the prompts on the screen to sync your account accordingly.

Retro Games in Kodi: Introduction

Kodi 18

Since the release of Kodi 18 Leia, the Kodi software has had full support for retro video games in Kodi. That means that you can sync a controller to Kodi (or use a keyboard), install classic video game consoles (called emulators), and load retro video games (called roms).

Kodi allows retro video games through its inclusion of the RetroPlayer framework, which is a popular software package containing some of the biggest emulators.

What Video Games Systems are Supported in Kodi 18?

Kodi 18 includes support for a number of video game systems, including:

• Nintendo / Super Nintendo / Nintendo DS
• Gameboy / Gameboy Advance / Gameboy Color
• Playstation One
• Sega Saturn
• DOS
• Lynx
• Atari 2600

Status of Sega Dreamcast & Nintendo 64 (N64) Support in Kodi 18

Two popular retro consoles are not currently supported in Kodi 18: the Sega Dreamcast and the N64. N64 and the Dreamcast cores both require OpenGL support, which is not currently included in the Retroplayer framework.

You will not be able to play Sega Dreamcast or N64 retro games in Kodi internally, but we will show you how to set these up to an external link later on in this guide!

Syncing and Configuring Game Controllers in Kodi

This area of the guide is to help you setup and configure your game controller for retro games in Kodi. It covers a few important components, including:

1. What Controllers are Supported in Kodi?

5. Configure your controllers for games

What Controllers are Supported in Kodi?

Kodi supports a number of the most common controllers, including:

• XBox
• Sony Playstation
• Nvidia Shield
• Generic game controllers (as long as they have bluetooth or USB support)

How to Pair Your Controller

To get your controller working with Kodi, you first have to set it up on the hardware you have Kodi loaded onto. For most people, that is probably and Android TV box, but this guide should work for Mac, Windows, and Linux as well.

If you want to use the controller wired, then plug it into your device. If you want to use the controller over Bluetooth, just turn it on and make sure it is NOT synced with any other powered on hardware.

Pair Game Controller on Amazon Fire

If you are using the Amazon Fire as your hardware of choice, then you want to navigate to Settings > Controllers & Bluetooth Devices.

Select the Game Controllers option and then click on Add New Game Controller.

The Amazon Fire will now search for known game controllers using Bluetooth.

If you are using the Playstation 4 controller, you must hold down the center PS button and the ‘Share’ button at the same time. For most other game controllers, you simply turn on the controller and then press the ‘sync’ button on the controller.

When the Amazon Fire recognizes your controller, it should be added to the list on the screen and you will be able to use the controller to navigate the menus.

Pair Game Controller on Android TV

If you have an Android TV box, pair your controller by navigating to Settings (gear icon) > Devices & Accessories > Add Accessory.

If you are prompted to turn Bluetooth ON on your Android TV box, allow this to happen. Your box will now be looking for game controllers

Once again, if you are using the Playstation 4 controller, you must hold down the center PS button and the ‘Share’ button at the same time. For other game controllers, you simply turn on the controller and then press the ‘sync’ button on the controller.

When the Android TV box recognizes your controller, it should be added to the list on the screen. If your controller has been recognizes, scroll down and click OK. You will be able to use the controller to navigate the menus.

How to Get Kodi to Recognize Your Game Controller

By default, you should be able to use your controller and launch Kodi from your boxes main menu as normal. You will probably get to navigate Kodi using your controller right at this point.

If Kodi does not recognize your game controller by default, it may be disabled in Kodi’s settings. To fix this issue:

1. From the Kodi main menu, click on Settings (gear icon)
2. Select System and head to the Input tab.
3. On the right, click on Configure attached controllers.
4. Kodi will prompt you to enable the add-on configuration. Select Yes.
5. A window will show your installed gamepad along with any profiles you have set up. Simply click “OK” to save and exit and see if your controller works now.

Now that your game controller is setup, you are closer to playing retro games in Kodi!

How to Install Controller Addons in Kodi

In order to properly use each emulator (like Nintendo, Super Nintendo, etc), you need to install specific controller addons that map out how your connected controller simulates each console’s native controller as follows:

1. From the Kodi main menu, click on the Add-ons icon (open box icon).
2. Select Install From Repository
3. Click on the Kodi Add-on Repository
4. Click on Game Add-ons
5. Select Controller Profiles

From this screen, you must install controller profiles for all of the emulators you wish to use. So if you plan on playing Super Nintendo and Atari 2600 games, you must install these controller profiles.

How to Configure Your Controllers for Retro Games in Kodi

Next, you need to configure the buttons for all of the controller addons you just installed. You have to map buttons from each original controller to your new controller which you have synced.

1. From the Kodi main menu, click the Settings gear icon.
2. Select System and then navigate to the Input tab.
3. Select Configure attached controllers.
4. If Kodi asks you to enable the addon configuration, select Yes.
5. You will see all of the control addons you installed for retro games in Kodi.
6. Choose the one you want to edit and then scroll to the right where the Buttons are listed.
7. Click each button and select it. The assigned button will be replaced by a prompt for you to press the equivalent button on your controller. So if you select the “A” button, then you’ll want to click the button on your controller you want to match A.
8. Repeat this process for each button on every controller.
9. When you are done, select OK to save your settings,

You have now installed controller addons and configured them and are one step closer to playing retro games in Kodi!

Next we get to the fun part – installing and playing games!

How to Install & Play Video Games in Kodi

Retro video games in Kodi are made possible by the use of roms and emulators. Emulators are little software programs that mirror old video game consoles. Roms are software replicas of video games that can be read by the Retroplayer emulator that comes packaged by Kodi.

You can install the roms or the emulators first, but we will show you how to install emulators since you already have everything you need in kodi.

How to Install Emulators in Kodi

1. From the Kodi main menu, click on the Add-ons icon (open box icon).
2. Select Install From Repository
3. Click on the Kodi Add-on Repository
4. Click on Game Add-ons
5. Select Emulators

From the giant list of emulators you now see, you have to install the ones you wish to use. It’s a good idea to install at least one emulator for all of the different video game consoles you plan on playing retro games in Kodi from.

For some of the consoles where there is more than one emulator listed, here are our recommendations:

• Ninetendo DS = DeSmuME
• Game Boy Advance = mGBA
• NES = bnes
• SNES = Snes9x
• Sony Playstation = PCSX ReARMed

If you are having trouble getting some games to work with the emulators you have installed, feel free to try others!

Next, let’s move on to talking about the roms, which are the actual retro games you want to play in Kodi.

There is an awesome addon called the Internet Archive Game Launcher (IAGL) that allows you to play any and all retro games in Kodi. Let’s walk through how to install the IARL addon and then we’ll also show you how you can add your own roms into Kodi and setup a directory to play them.

How to Install the Internet Archive Game Launcher Kodi Addon

1. Click here to access the Zach Morris Kodi Repository. Click the repository-xachmorris-x.x.zip file and then click on Download to download the repostory.
2. Go back to your home screen.
   • ON Kodi 17 Krypton or later: Select Add-ons > Add-on Browser (open box)
   • ON Kodi 16 or earlier: Select SYSTEM > Add-Ons
3. Select Install from Zip File and located the repository.zachmorris-x-x.zip file you download above. Click on it and wait for the Add-on enabled notification
4. Select Install from Repository > Zach Morris Add-ons > GameAdd-ons > Game Providers > Internet Archive Game Launch > Install
5. Wait for Add-on enabled notification

When you launch the Internet Archive Game Launch Kodi addon, you will see a ton of game consoles listed. Navigate through to a game you want to play and click Launch to open up the emulator you installed above and to start playing the game!

How to Configure Internet Archive Game Launch Kodi Addon (IAGL)

In order to use the IAGL Kodi addon without any issues, there is a setup wizard that has to take place. Complete these steps:

1. Launch the IAGL Kodi addon settings. You can do this by hovering on the IAGL addon and long pressing on it or pressing menu (”c’ button) to bring up the context menu. Then, click on Settings.
2. Scroll down to the Setup Wizard tab.
3. Under Emulator Launcher, you want to select either “Kodi Retroplayer” or “External” based on how you will be playing the majority of your emulators.
4. Since this is a retro games in Kodi guide, we will select “Kodi Retroplayer” and show you how to update a few select emulators to external later if you wish.
5. Click on Execute Setup Wizard and follow the instructions.

Other Retro Games in Kodi Help & Tips

How to Install Retroarch

If you want to use an external emulator to play retro games outside of Kodi or you want to try out Sega Dreamcast or Nintendo 64 roms, you can do that!

First off, you need to install the Retroarch app, which is software that contains all of the same emulators you saw above.

A list of where to download and install Retroarch is as follows:

• Windows, OSX users: Download Retroarch from here.
• Linux users: Install Retroarch with from the PPA. See here for stable releases and here for nightly releases.
• Raspberry Pi users: Install the Kodi addon Gamestarter to install Retroarch directly from Kodi.
• LibreElec users (both x86 and RPi) have 2 options: Use the LibreElec “Remix” build herewhich includes Retroarch, or use the Kodi addon Gamestarter to install Retroarch directly from Kodi.
• OpenElec users (x86): Use the Kodi addon Gamestarter to install Retroarch directly from Kodi.
• Android users: Retroarch is available from the Play store.
• S905 users: Use the LibreElec “SX05RE” build here which includes Retroarch

Install Retroarch on your device.

Next, we have some basic Retroarch setup to perform before we tell the Internet Archive Game Launch Kodi addon to launch it as an external app.

How to Setup Retroarch External App

1. Launch the Retroarch app you installed above.
2. Go to Online Updater
3. Then, go to Core Updater
4. Click on at least one core for every system you’d like to play to update it.

It is highly recommended that you update the Core Info Files, Assets, Autoconfig Profiles, Cheats, Databases, Overlays, and Shaders from the Online Updater Page so that you have the latest version of everything included in Retroarch.

How to Configure Retroarch Location in IAGL Kodi Addon

1. Run Kodi and head into your video addons where the IAGL Kodi addon sites.
2. Hover over top of it and long press or press the menu (‘c’ button) and then select Settings.
3. Go into the External Launchers tab.
4. Click on My System Type and select it from this list.
5. You will have to complete all of the fields that now show up in order to get Retroarch to launch for specific emulators (which we will configure in a second).

Here are some helpful hints about some of the options that you will see:

• Retroarch System Folder = This is the “com.retroarch” folder that installs when you install Retroarch on your Android box. It will be located at //data/data/com.retroarch/ for most users.
• Retroarch CFG Location = This is the “retroarch.cfg” file location, which stores a bunch of retroarch settings. It can be located in a number of locations including:
  • /mnt/internal_sd/Android/data/com.retroarch/files/retroarch.cfg
  • /sdcard/Android/data/com.retroarch/files/retroarch.cfg
  • /data/data/com.retroarch/retroarch.cfg
• Close Kodi on Launch = Some operating systems allow you to close Kodi when Retroarch is opened if you wish.
• Pause Kodi on Launch = Likewise, some operating systems pause Kodi when Retroarch is launched so that it does’t take up any resources.

How to Launch Retroarch From IAGL Kodi Addon

Once your external location is setup, we can force some of the retro games in Kodi to launch the external app verses the internal one.

1. Launch the Internet Archive Game Launch Kodi addon
2. Head into the Browse All Lists playlist
3. Hover on the console you want to launch using Retroarch, such a Sega Dreamcast or Nintendo 64.
4. Long press or press the menu button to bring open the context menu and then select Update Launch
5. Change this from Kodi to External to use the external settings you setup above.

Kodi Games on Xbox One Status

There is one giant exception to this entire guide – The Xbox. Last year, Microsoft allowed the Kodi software to be installed on the Xbox One as long as Kodi complied with all of Microsoft’s terms and conditions related to the system.

One of those major terms is that the Xbox One does not allow the installation of any video game emulators on its console. Thus, all of the Retroplayer dependencies and files are not included with the Xbox One version of Kodi and you will not be able to play retro games in Kodi on the Xbox One.

Slow Motion Game Fix

If you are seeing slow motion games and sound when you launch a rom, we have the fix for you. Follow these instructions:

1. From the Kodi main menu, navigate to System > Player > Videos
2. Uncheck the option to Allow Hardware Acceleration – *CodecName).

Kodi 18 Upgrade Tips

If you are looking to upgrade to Kodi 18, here are some helpful hints to get you started:

• It is a good idea to switch back to the default Estuary skin before updating. Due to backend Kodi changes, all skins need to be updated for Kodi 18. Revert back to Estuary before upgrading to ensure that you will at least see everything after you upgrade. Some of the skins that have been upgraded to support Kodi 18 include:
  • Confluence
  • Pellucid
  • Rapier
  • Transparency
• You are free to install Kodi 18 right over top of Kodi 17. Your operating system should work its magic in the background.

Kodi 18 Latest Update

April 23rd: Kodi 18.2 has been released across all platforms! This is a bug fix release that improves the quality of Kodi on all operating systems. If you have Android TV, Kodi should automatically update from the Google Play store. Most/all other operating systems will have to install manually.

There should be no risk in installing Kodi 18.2 over top of your existing Kodi 18 setup.

January 28th: The official and final kodi 18 download is now available. This comes after 5 release candidate versions which cleaned up the remainder of the bugs in Kodi 18 and allowed it to get to final stage.

Kodi 18 Features

Much of the work in Kodi 18 Leia has been to standardize the backend code, which should mean less errors and better video processing for everyone! Some of the other features noted in this Kodi 18 download:

• Button maps for controllers completed
• Improved playback on Android video and DTS-HD audio
• Revamped music library to read metadata instead of just file name.
• Live TV overhaul – Need a USB or network tuner such as HDHomeRun.
• Xbox One Support
• More standardized Android code: Now includes leanback search integration and Google Assistant voice integration
• Better remote and controller support
• Revamped video player support
• Digital Rights Management (DRM) support for login and subscription based DRM services.
• Libretro API added for full game client support. Libretro is the most popular backend for classic game emulators and inclusion into Kodi will open up a whole world of users who can emulate old games within the Kodi interface. Setup can be tricky for beginner users, so we are interested to see how each setup is on Kodi, particularly getting your game controllers (including Playstation and Xbox) to work.
• Improvements to nearly all backend PVR clients supported by Kodi including FilmOn, HDHomeRun ArgusTV, and others. This should mean better menus, feel, and look for viewing live TV channels via an over-the-air tuner.
• Improvements made to Inputstream clients, which improve network streaming protocols. This should hopefully open the door to creating native Kodi addons for online streaming services such as Sling TV, Youtube TV, and other live IPTV sources.
• Better Bluetooth support. This should allow controllers, remotes, keyboard, mouse, and other accessories better access to control Kodi.
• Speech-to-text and recommendations support on Android TV. This should allow Kodi to better integrate into the Android backend and be included in the recommendation tiles that come standard on newer Android devices (such as the nVidia Shield).
• Improved Python based  web scraper support.
• Added game client addons for many popular third-party game consoles
• Added new PVR clients for Zattoo Box, Teleboy, and Seldovanitv.
• Added ability to inspect addon dependencies before installing
• Added addons for game controllers and peripherals
• Audio engine improvements

Kodi 18 Skins

Note that all of the changes in Kodi 18 means that old skins are NOT compatible. This means that skin developers will need to add Kodi 18 support before you can use it. This happened back during the Kodi 16 to 17 transition as well.

If your skin is not supported with Kodi 18, you will most likely see the Kodi logo on startup and then Kodi will crash before it gets to your main menu. It is highly recommended that you change your skin back to the default Estuary before you upgrade.

Kodi 18 Download 

1. Visit the Kodi download page by clicking here or navigating to kodi.tv/download on your box..
2. Select your operating system. A popup will appear and you’ll want to click on the Development Builds tab.
3. Read the text warning you about what the nightly builds are meant for and refer to the guide on how to submit bug reports. When you are ready to download, click the appropriate button beside the word Nightly.
4. The nightly build will download. When it is complete, launch it and install just like any software.

How to Setup the Seren Kodi Addon

When you launch the Seren Kodi addon for the first time, there is some setup and integration you will want to complete in order to ensure that you have a good experience! Follow the steps below, which have been accompanied alongside the addon install guide.

1. Launch the Seren Kodi addon.
2. Navigate to Tools > Open Settings Menu
3. Go to the Accounts tab and click on Authorize Trakt and follow the instructions on the screen.
4. Click on Enable Premiumize and Enable Real Debrid and follow the instructions to sync your accounts to the addon.
5. Go to the Providers tab and click on Install From Web URL
6. Type in http://bit.ly/a4kScrapers and click OK

How to Install Up Next Kodi Addon

The Up Next Kodi addon provides a Netflix-style popup menu for automatically starting the next episodes playback in Kodi. Since Seren’s integration with Premiumize and Real-Debrid is designed to automatically queue up multiple episodes at a time, Up Next integration is a very handy feature!

To install Up Next, first install Seren using the instructions above. Then, perform these steps:

1. Navigate to SYSTEM > Add-ons > Install From Repository > Nixgates Repository > Services > Up Next > Install
2. Wait for the Add-on Enabled Notification
3. Click on the addon and click on Configure to bring open the settings screen.
4. In the Settings tab, change the Default action when nothing selected option to Don’t Play. This will stop Seren from automatically playing the next episode when you don’t select it to.
5. Enable the option to Enable on Playlist.
6. Press OK to save your settings.

Kodi 19 Codename

Each version of Kodi comes with a codename to help users identify it.

Kodi 16 was Jarvis. Kodi 17 was Krypton. Kodi 18 was Leia.

The Kodi foundation asked for suggestions on their forums for the Kodi 19 codename, which starts with ‘M’.

A shortlist was put to vote by the developers and the Kodi 19 codename is Matrix. 

Kodi 19 Release Date

The release date for Kodi 19 Matrix is fluid and won’t be officially announced until a later date. However, we can look at the release history of the last few versions of Kodi to make a guess.

Kodi 16 was released on February 20th, 2016.

Kodi 17 was released on February 5th, 2017.

Kodi 18 was released on January 29th, 2019.

The reason for the long delay between Kodi 17 and Kodi 18 is become the majority of code was stripped out and replaced with modern programming standards and libraries. This was done to “future-proof” the code behind Kodi and allow better collaboration and support for all of the different operating systems.

Based on this information, can we guess the Kodi 19 release date?

Nothing is set in stone unless it comes from the official Kodi foundation, but we hope to see something around Q1 (January-March) of 2020. A number of milestones before then will give us an idea if things are on schedule.

The alpha release of Kodi 19 Matrix would be in the fall of 2019. The beta release would come in the winter of 2019.

The above is complete speculation though!

The Kodi software is well-developed and new major features are harder to recognize and implement. Kodi 18 also runs very well on all operating systems. Because of this, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see another two year development cycle.

Kodi 19 Download

Currently, there is not official Kodi 19 download available and Kodi 19 matrix is considered to be in a pre-alpha state.

The Kodi team has always allowed users to test “nightly” versions of its software. These nightly versions often include features that are unfinished and untested and are not recommended for any permanent or main usage. If you don’t know what you are doing, do not try to install the nightly Kodi 19 pre-alpha version.

So, why 13 Clowns vs Exodus Redux?

Kodi addons are made up of three separate parts:

1. The Scraper
2. The Resolver
3. The Search Engine

The 13 Clowns or Exodus Redux addons (or any other addon) is the search engine. It’s job is to search and query movie and TV titles. In the case of Exodus and other multi-source addons, it uses Trakt, TMDB, and TVDM databases to present movies and titles in playlists such as “most popular” or “trending movies”.

When you search or query a title, the Kodi addon searches through scrapers, which are websites on the internet that contain links to media files. The scraper used by 13 Clowns is Civitas Scrapers, which has quickly become the most popular set of scrapers for Kodi.

Exodus Redux is still using the old LambdaScrapers project, which has been abandoned and is not receiving updates any longer.

After showing you a list of media files, the one you pick to play is passed off to a resolver. The resolver module is ResolveURL, which is a collection of instructions on how to navigate through file hosts to get out the raw video file.

13 Clowns Latest Version

April 28th: The 13 Clowns Kodi addon has been updated to v5.0.10. Recent changes to the addon include:

• dropped civitas included scrapers in addon now
• misc fixes

13 Clowns Kodi No Streams Available Fix

If you are seeing a fast “No Stream Available” when clicking on any title. follow these instructions:

1. Navigate to Tools > Settings: Providers.
2. Under the Providers tab, make sure the Scraper Provider is set to Civitas Scrapers.
3. Click on Open Civitas Scrapers Settings
4. Make sure the Choose Module Scraper option is set to Civitasscrapers.
5. Click okay
6. Follow steps 1-5 above one more time to make sure that your settings have been locked in.

You should see working streams with the 13 Clowns Kodi addon!

How to Install TVZion Android TV & Amazon App

Android

TVZion is not available on the Google Play Store. Instead, it must be manually downloaded and sideloaded onto your device. You can also use Android software that automatically sideloads APKs for you. To install TVZion, follow these steps:

1. From your Android home screen, navigate to Settings > Security > enable Unknown Sources.
2. Download the latest version of the TVZion Android app by clicking here and move it onto your Android TV box via a USB stick or network drive..
3. Navigate to the TVZion APK file you moved onto your box and run the file. HINT: You can download ES File Explorer from the Google Play Store to make navigating file folders easy. You can also run the APK from inside of ES File Explorer.
4. When you launch the APK, select Install. TVZion will install and then it will appear in your apps section when it is done.

Amazon Fire TV & Android TV Downloader Method

1. From the Amazon home screen, navigate to Settings > Devices > Developer Options.
2. Turn On the option to install Apps from Unknown Sources
3. Head back to the home screen and launch the Amazon App Store/Google Play Store.
4. Click on the Search Bar and search for Downloader.
5. Click on Download to install the app and launch it once installed.
6. Type https://zionapp.live/d into the URL box and then click the Go button.
7. The TVZion APK will download. Click on Install once you see the setup wizard.

The new OpenScrapers Kodi project should give some long-term stability to Kodi. Kodi Scrapers are pieces of open-source code that can query websites on the public internet that contain media files and links. 

Our guide below outlines OpenScrapers, how to install it, and why it is useful.

The Need For OpenScrapers

In March of 2019, the 13 Clowns repository created Civitas Scrapers from the former LambdaScrapers project and then abandoned the project without much regard for end users, This meant that a second “community” scrapers project was abandoned in as many months.

OpenScrapers is a new community project supplying working scrapers for everyone. Why do we have more faith in this project compared to Civitas? It is endorsed and supported by addons4kodi, the number one sub-reddit for third party Kodi information. With the team at a4k taking on the project, it should mean great things into the future. They have already done a great job on OpenMeta and OpenInfo.

Some of the other most common scraper modules for Kodi are Yoda and Universal Scrapers (which are used for every Jen-based addon). OpenScrapers is similar to these but with good universal support for all multi-source addons.

The project integrates working scrapers from all sources into a single spot so that Kodi users can find plenty of working Kodi links.

OpenScrapers Kodi Latest Updates

The latest version of the OpenScrapers Kodi module is v0.1.4, updated on May 3rd, 2019. It comes with the following changes:

• Numerous scraper updates – rlsbb, putlocker & more
• Code reformatting

The initial version of the project has support for over 50 regular sources, over 10 debrid sources, and 10 torrent sources. Until other scraper packages update their code, you may see a reduced number of streams. If you have the newest Exodus Redux Kodi addon, you will have the latest version of OpenScrapers.

The initial version of the OpenScrapers Kodi module works out of the box. If you want to change providers, install it using our guide below and then navigate to Program addons > press menu on OpenScrapers > go to settings and change what you would like.

The original addon for OpenScrapers is the Exodus Redux Kodii addon. If you have Exodus Redux installed, you will see the latest version of OpenScrapers and a bunch of working links.

You do not need to install this module on your own. When you install a Kodi addon that uses OpenScrapers as a dependency, it will automatically be installed in Kodi.

How to Import OpenScrapers Into Any Addon

Developers

Developers can import OpenScrapers into their projects by adding the following import code:

Open the `addons/plugin.video.name_of_addon/addon.xml` file. Add the following line to the addon.xml file: `<import addon=”script.module.openscrapers”/>` Open addons/script.module.name_of_addon/lib/resources/lib/modules/sources.py Add the following line to the `sources.py` file: `import openscrapers`.  Add it right after the line that says: `from resources.lib.modules import thexem` You will also need to change a few lines in the def `getConstants(self)` function in `sources.py` file: Find the line that says: `from resources.lib.sources import sources` Comment out that line by adding a pound/hashtag at the beginning like this: `#from resources.lib.sources import sources` add the following: `from openscrapers import sources`   And there you go!

Originally developed by Lambda, Exodus has been forked a countless number of times with tons of replacements. In 2019, the Kodi Exodus code remains largely the same with a few key additions and changes.

What is Kodi Exodus?

Exodus is an open source set of code created by the developer Lambda that integrates three major components together:

1. The Scraper
2. The Resolver
3. The Search Engine

The actual Exodus addon (including Exodus Redux and other addons) is the search engine. It’s job is to search and query movie and TV titles. In the case of Exodus, it uses Trakt, TMDB, and TVDM databases to present movies and titles in playlists such as “most popular” or “trending movies”.

When you search a title in the Kodi Exodus addon, it searches through scrapers, which are websites on the internet that contain links to media files.

In the initial version of Exodus, these scrapers were local to the addon. Nowadays, some community scraper projects exist such as Universal Scrapers and Civitas Scrapers. Community scrapers can be updated and then all addons using those scrapers receive the same updates.

But anyway, back to Exodus!

After you search, Exodus shows you a list of media file. The one you pick to play is passed off to a resolver. The resolver module in Exodus is URLResolver, which is a collection of instructions on how to navigate through file hosts to get out the raw video file.

The resolver passes Kodi a media file that plays on your Kodi hardware.

All versions of Exodus come with the following features:

Latest Kodi Exodus Update

The original Exodus addon has not been maintained by Lambda since early 2017 when Lambda retired as a developer from the community.

That doesn’t mean that the legacy of Exodus doesn’t live on though!

Today, there are two recommended forks of the Exodus addon that live on and are under development.

Kodi Exodus Kodibae Version

The Kodibae repository is a mysterious Github repo that updates the code of addons formally created and maintained by TVAddons. TVAddons is currently involved in a court case in Canada over the legality of its addons and does not host any grey-area content.

The Kodibae developer keeps some of the original TVA addons up to date, including Exodus. This version of Exodus is largely the same as the original release and it updates every few months with some new scrapers updates to check out.

The latest version of the Kodibae Exodus is v8.0.4, updated on May 6th, 2019.

Exodus Redux Kodi Addon

Exodus Redux is a popular fork of the original Exodus addon. It makes some key changes to the code base:

• The resolver has been changed from URLResolver to ResolveURL, which receives more regular updates.
• The scraper module has changed from local to the Open Scrapers community codebase.

Exodus Redux went without an update from December until March 2019 until a brand new update, v2.0.1. popped up on March 9th just a few days after the removal and hack of the 13 Clowns repo.

Exodus Redux

The latest release of Exodus Redux is from March 13th, v2.0.3 (module 2.0.3)

Changes in this version are as follows:

• Addon version 2.0.3
  • Enabled “My Lists” by default
  • Added Greek + English provider option
• Module version 2.0.3
  • Fixed Trakt and IMDB lists
• Openscrapers 0.0.2
  • Lambdascrapers replacement

IMPORTANT: Reset the Exodus Redux settings to Default if you are experiencing issues.

Kodibae Kodi Exodus

The latest update to the Kodibae version of Exodus is from February 9th, v8.0 (module v3.1.2) In addition to fixed scrapers, the latest version has the following updates:

How to Install Kodi Exodus Add-on

Kodibae Exodus

1. Click here to download the Kodi Bae Repository.
2. From your Kodi home screen.
   • ON Kodi 17 Krypton or later: Select Add-ons > Add-on Browser 
   • ON Kodi 16 or earlier: Select SYSTEM > Add-Ons
3. Select Install from Zip File > Select the repository.kodibae.x.x.x.zip file you downloaded above and wait for the Add-on enabled notification
4. Select Install from Repository > Kodi Bae repository > Video Add-ons > Exodus > Install
5. Wait for Add-on enabled notification

Exodus Redux

1. From the Kodi main menu, navigate to SYSTEM > File Manager > Add Source > None
2. Type the following EXACTLY https://i-a-c.github.io/ and select Done
3. Highlight the box underneath and enter a name for this media Source like .redux. and then click OK
4. Go back to your home screen.
   • ON Kodi 17 Krypton or later: Select Add-ons > Add-on Browser 
   • ON Kodi 16 or earlier: Select SYSTEM > Add-Ons
5. Select Install from Zip File > .redux > repository.exodusredux-x.x.x.zip and wait for the Add-on enabled notification
6. Select Install from Repository > Exodus Redux Repo > Video Add-ons > Exodus Redux > Install
7. Wait for Add-on enabled notification

Exodus Redux FireDL Method

If you are using hardware that is hard or inconvenient to download and move zip files onto, you can use FireDL to get the Exodus Redux repo! FireDL is a tool that hides zip file links behind a code and as long as you know that code, you can get any app or addon you want.

First, download the FireDL app onto your Android, Nvidia, or Amazon hardware and then follow the steps below.

1. Launch the FireDL app.
2. Enter in the shortcode 882887 and click the download button.
3. The Exodus Redux repo zip file will be downloaded onto your device.
4. Launch Kodi. From your home screen:
   • ON Kodi 17 Krypton or later: Select Add-ons > Add-on Browser 
   • ON Kodi 16 or earlier: Select SYSTEM > Add-Ons
5. Select Install from Zip File > external storage > Downloads > repository.exodusredux.zip and wait for the Add-on enabled notification. If the path above is not 100% correct, you will have to do a little searching until you find the Downloads folder that FireDL downloaded the zip file to.
6. Select Install from Repository > Exodus Redux repository > Video Add-ons > Exodus Redux > Install
7. Wait for Add-on enabled notification

How to Setup / Configure Exodus Redux Addon

OpenScrapers should be enabled by default. To double-check whether OpenScrapers is enabled, follow these instructions:

1. From the Home Menu, go to Tools > SETTINGS: Providers
2. “Choose Module Provider Source” should be set to “OpenScrapers”
3. Open OpenScrapers Settings
4. In the “Providers” section, Openscrapers should be selected from the “Choose Module Scraper” pull-down menu.
5. In the “Providers”, “Foreign” and “Debrid” (if using a debrid service) sections, you can also enable/disable specific providers. If you want to use a different Module Scraper
6. In the “Providers” section, select the scraper set you want to use from the “Choose Module Scraper” pull-down menu.
7. In the “Providers” section, select “Enable ALL Providers(for current Module)”. This enables all providers for the current module in addition to any previously enabled providers. Note: “Foreign” and “Debrid” are only available with Lambdascrapers

Tip: Before selecting “Open Scrapers Default Providers”, it is a good idea to “Disable All Providers” first.

Tip: When switching Module Scrapers it is good idea to “Disable All Providers” first.

Kodi Exodus Not Working Help

If the Exodus addon is not working for you, it can be frustrating!

Kodi Exodus No Stream Available Fix

“No Stream Available” is a common Kodi error that most users will run into. There is a common misconception about Kodi addons you must first understand before we talk about how to fix this error:

• If I see a title in Exodus, a stream must be available for it.

This is NOT true! Titles in Kodi are pulled from a service like Trakt or IMDB. If a movie is not released yet or is really old, there may not be any streams available and no troubleshooting will fix this.

If you are certain that a stream should be available for a title, you need to make sure that your scrapers are setup and working. Refer to the steps above in this guide on how to make sure your scrapers are working in the Exodus settings.

Try restarting the Kodi Exodus addon or Exodus Redux addon again. Try installing Kodi from scratch with NO build and this will most likely solve your problems.

How to Authorize Trakt in Exodus Redux

If you are a Trakt user and store your movies and TV data in that service, you can sync your account by launching Exodus Redux and going to Tools > Authorize Trakt. Follow the prompts on the screen to sync your account accordingly.

Missing My Lists in Exodus Redux (Trakt)

If you are missing your “My Lists” which are your specialty playlists pulled from Trakt, you need to follow these instructions:

1. Launch the Exodus Redux Addon.
2. Click on Tools
3. Click on SETTINGS: General
4. In the General tab, go down to My Lists under the “Menu” sub-heading and make sure it is set to Enabled.
5. Go to the Accounts tab.
6. Under the “Trakt” sub-heading, click on Authorization/Re-Authorize and re-sync your Trakt account to Exodus Redux.

Kodi Exodus Tips

Check out some of the Exodus tips we’ve compiled from hundreds of questions and feedback submitted to us on social media.

• Watching old content in Exodus – The Exodus Kodi addon searches the public internet for media. The older and more obscure the content is, the less likely it is available on the internet. There is nothing you can do about this. A private usenet server, such as Easynews, is the best way to view old and obscure content.
• Seeing more streams in Exodus – Some users want to watch new content but still have trouble. Here are some common tips to improve your experience:
  • If its a movie you want information on, make sure it is out on DVD. If the movie has just come out in theatres, stop searching Exodus for anything.
  • If you live in the UK, your internet service provider may be blocking access to over half the available content in Exodus. Click here for more information.
  • If you have an Android TV box, make sure your OS version is AT LEAST 5+. The Exodus Kodi addon is not supported on Android 4.4
  • Make sure that you have at least Kodi 17.0 or greater (latest version is always preferred). Exodus is not supported on Kodi 16 or less.
• Seeing only trailers in Exodus – If you commonly only see trailers when looking for streams in Exodus, click here.
• GVideo links not working or missing – Gvideo media links are popular because they are fast and in good quality, but they are often prone to being removed from the internet. Click here for more information.

FireDL is an Android tool that allows you to install APKs not found inside of the Google Play Store without the need to transfer files onto your device. 1. Fire off, Enable Unknown Sources from your Android Box Settings > System > Debug Options menu.
2. From your Android TV Box main menu, launch the Google Play Store and sign in if you aren’t already
3. Using the search box, type in FireDL.
4. Click on FireDL and press Install. Accept the permissions popup if necessary.
5. Launch FireDL from your Apps area.
6. Enter the following shortcode into the File URL field at the top of FireDL: 441415
7. Click on Download to load the file onto your device. After it is finished, you will be prompted to install the application.

What are MKV Files?

MKV files are a modern media container file that packages audio, video, and subtitles using separate parts. Compared to traditional MP4 or AVI file formats which bundle and compress everything together, MKV files are separate components combined during playback.

MKV files allow different codecs for audio and video to be used.

Why Do Some MKV Files Not Work on Android TV?

Android TV APKs such as TVZion or TeaTV scrape the public internet for media files that match your search query for a title. When a file is chosen, which may be an MKV by chance, the file is passed on to a native Android player for playback.

Two of the most common Android TV players are MX Player and VLC. They do a generally good job of playing back any media file you throw at it.

EXCEPT that some really new audio AC3 or DTS codecs (don’t worry if those mean nothing to you) aren’t supported by MK Player Free or VLC yet. So when your Android TV APK goes to play files using those codecs, it doesn’t know how to process it and chooses to give you display MKV no sound instead.

How to Fix MKV No Sound or Video

In order to fix having no audio or video in some MKV files, you have to tell MX Player to use an updated custom set of codecs.

The bad news is that you can only load custom codecs on the pro version of MX Player.

The GOOD news is that it is easy to apply a patch MX Player which allows you to playback all video and audio codecs.

How to Install Patch MX Player for AC3/DTS MKV Files

1. Launch the MX Player application from your Android apps section.
2. Navigate to Settings > Decoder
3. On the bottom of the page, note the type of custom codec your version of Android TV uses.
4. Close MX Player and launch the ES File Explorer Android app (available from the Google Play store)
5. Under Tools, click on Download Manager and then press the + button.
6. Input the URL below based on the custom codec you noted above:
   1. Neon – https://troypoint.com/neon
   2. Tegra 2 – https://troypoint.com/tegra2
   3. Tegra 3 – https://troypoint.com/tegra3
   4. X 86 – https://troypoint.com/x86
7. Relaunch MX Player. If it doesn’t automatically recognize and ask you to the use the new codec, you can go to Settings > Decoder, Scroll down and click on Custom Codec and select the file you saved above in step 6.

The MKV no sound issues you’ve been having will now be fixed!

Tip: Filtering Content in Kodi

Some sections within this addon contain hundreds of videos in a single playlist. To quickly find content you are looking for, follow this tip:

1. From the folder of videos you want to find something in, press the left button on your Kodi remote to open up the side options menu.
2. Scroll down to the Search option and click Enter.
3. In the typing window, start to type what you want to see (e.g. “Alabama” for all Alabama games). As you start to type, the addon will filter out only the results that match your query.
4. When you are done, click enter and you will have a much smaller subset of video files to stream.
5. To empty your search query, press left again and click on search.
